Continuing to use your old office chair makes sense when you want to sit to work.
However, there is an zone between sitting and standing that it can’t handle.
Adding the HumanTool will open up this additional way of working.
Let’s see how this all works.
How can it improve working comfort for sit stand workers? This cleverly designed sitting tool is intended to be used with your existing chair.
It sits neatly on top of your seat and its rounded ball shaped base follows your body movements greatly enhancing the movement in your trunk area.
Ordinarily when used with a standard desk you would need to lower your seat height. And this is where the HumanTool opens up a more flexible way of working with a height adjustable desk.
It effectively raises the working height of your chair seat by 7 inches. What this does is to make it possible to work in a perching or semi standing position for many people.
It opens up the angle between back, trunk and legs and is a comfortable way of working for long periods of time.
Using this clever seating accessory gives you similar advantages to specialist chairs like the Move, Muvman and Capisco. Obviously it isn't quite as flexible as using one of these purpose designed seats.
Nonetheless, for many people it will work very well for half standing working in the office.
It’s also a good idea to use it when sitting normally as it provides a lot more healthy movement in the trunk and lower back.
Who will find it most beneficial?
When using the HumanTool for half standing working you should adjust your office chair to its maximum height initially. People up to 5 feet 10 inches high should be able to work like this.
And for taller people it may well be possible to change the standard gas lift on the chair for an extended version. This would then allow the seat to go higher making it feasible to work this way.
Dimensions and finishes
The HumanTool Balanceseat is triangular in shape and supplied in a single size and measures:
- Overall length – 13 inches
- Width at back – 13 inches
- Width at front – 5 inches
- Height including base – 7 inches
It comes with a separate circular base which is intended for use with seats having very soft foams to ensure it moves freely. For stability it should only be used with chairs with a back support.
The seat can be specified in one of four hardwearing upholstery finishes in either black, red, blue or gray.
Although the HumanTool Balanceseat is usually used at conventional seating height, it does work well with the raised working positions of a moving top desk. It’s a lot more affordable than a dedicated sit stand seat and will save you 60% or more.
It’s not ideal for very tall users unless used on a chair with an extended gas lift. On the other hand it will work well for average built people and especially for short people.
And when you are sitting to work it will provide far more movement in areas like the bottom of the back which tend to get little or no movement in typical task chairs.
