No complicated adjustments to wrestle with.
You simply take it out of the bag, unclip the seat from its travel mount and screw it into the top of the leg.
From there, depress the adjuster buttons and adjust the leg support to a suitable length for your body and sit.
It's then that you realise it's not just the simplicity it's also the versatility of this seat.
It truly is a sitting support for a huge range of different situations.
Who is it for?
Due to its wide range of adjustment, it will work for any height of person, be they short, average or tall built.
Maybe the only limitation is the 14.25 stone maximum weight capacity. Nonetheless, because of the way your weight is distributed in use, it should be fine for many well built users too. More on this later.
Anyone who uses a standing desk both fixed or adjustable, will love the flexibility this leaning seat brings to the workplace.
Even the most ardent fans of standing to work will find welcome relief and variation of posture using the Mogo seat.
And that's only the half of it. For not only is it designed for indoor use, it works equally well outdoors too.
So you can use it for both work and play. It only weighs 2.1lbs, and folds neatly into a handy carry bag making it readily transportable anywhere.
Here are some ides for non work uses:
- Going to buy theater tickets and may need to queue
- Watching the kids playing soccer
- Outdoor photography
It's uses are endless. Time to take a closer look at what makes it so unique.
What makes it different?
As mentioned above one of its greatest strengths is its portability.
In under 30 seconds the seat can be fully assembled or folded away. And if you're feeling super lazy, just collapse its telescopic leg support and carry it still built up.
It's easy to think that it might not be very stable with just the single leg support and small rubber support pad.
In reality it's very solid and secure in use. The reason is quite simple, your own legs form what becomes a three legged support system. It simply is impossible for three legs to rock, even if they are different lengths. Unlike a four leg seat with uneven legs where stability just can't be reached.
By sitting this way your full weight isn't being placed on the seat and support.
A good proportion of it gets transferred through your legs. Granted that it's not possible to calculate the actual weight distribution between seat and legs, it's fair to say that the seat is going to support someone weighing more than the seat's design capacity.
And you shouldn't concern yourself that the odd leaning angle might be uncomfortable, it's actually very comfortable because the body loves to lean. Think about the last time you had to queue for a long time, how welcome that wall was to lean on to take some of the weight off your body.
Another unexpected discovery is the amount of movement you achieve as you use the Mogo. It's all quite subtle, in fact you don't particularly notice it. Nonetheless, you will find continual small movements around your knees and core muscles enclosing your waist. This is very good news, because it is the lack of movement in your core that makes conventional sitting so unhealthy. Moving muscles are healthy muscles.
Let's move onto the technical aspects of the seat.
The seat is made from contoured reinforced glassfiber and measures 14.5” wide x 8.5” deep overall. It's shaped to support you correctly with cut outs for your sitz bones.
There is an optional high density foam cushion which makes the seat a lot more comfortable when sitting on it for extended periods. It comes in black or red and the good news is it can be retro fitted. This is possible because the cut outs in the seat are matched with cut outs in the cushion.
You simply offer it up to the seat and then gently pull the lipped edges of the cut out through to secure it. It's equally easy to remove it if you choose to, although that's unlikely once you get used to the added comfort it provides.
It has a stable rubber foot support for hard surfaces, and this can be quickly reversed into a 4 prong plastic foot for use on grass.
It's rapidly adjustable from a low of 19” up to a top height of 37” in 1” increments. The adjustment comes from two separate sections built into the telescopic leg.
The lower leg nests inside the main support and adjusts in one inch increments via pre-drilled holes in its silver aluminum support. A quick press of the red spring loaded button makes this quick and easy.
The top leg gives a single move adjustment by depressing two spring loaded buttons allowing the leg to release and locate in a similar locking position further down the leg.
When not in use it can be placed on the floor on its seat. Alternatively rest it on your desk edge where it suspends like a pendulum ready for use later.
Focal Upright's Mogo seat is a very well thought out leaning chair. It's so easy to build up and strip down that it really is something you can take anywhere you're likely to need a seat to take the strain.
And for working at raised work surfaces, particularly standing desks it opens up a whole new range of healthy alternative postures. Leaning to sit is something the body feels at ease with, so there is no learning curve it's simply a case of sit and go.
When this review appeared originally pretty much the only negative we found was that the hard plastic of the seat might prove uncomfortable in prolonged use. It's good to see this has been taken care of by the addition of a comfort cushion.
All in all, this is a great sitting support for anyone using a standing or height adjustable desk or needing to sit at a raised surface.
