Fully's (formerly Ergo Depot) Jarvis desk has recently been voted best standing desk in 2016 by the influential website The Wirecutter, making it 3 years in a row it's been chosen as their number one standing desk.
Fully continues to improve and expand its Jarvis sit stand desks range with new models and design features as it seeks to keep ahead of its rivals. What started out as a simple rectangular desk with three top size options has now evolved into a much more comprehensive offering. With the addition of Jarvis3, its new L-shaped height adjustable model, Fully has now filled a major gap in its range.
Last year’s additions included a Bamboo top model with some unusual top footprints, hardwood tops, a new compact model, Jarvis Junior for tight spaces, treadmills and desk combinations and finally Rocket Mission Evolve, a beautiful designer creation. The full range of Jarvis desk options for 2016 is a far cry from the simple rectangular desk the product started with back in the fall of 2013.
So let’s dig deeper and see what’s on offer and how it can help you.
Who is it for?
With the wide range of alternatives that Jarvis comes in, there’s sure to be a model to suit pretty much anyone whether of a short, average or tall build. Super tall users, can gain another 2” of elevation by adding lockable casters.
Whether you're looking for a traditional sized desk, have the need for a large corner desk configuration, or require a smaller footprint due to space restrictions, Jarvis can handle it. Then there's the treadmill option for those who like the idea of a more active way of working.
What else adds to the appeal of this adjustable desk line?
What makes Jarvis different?
One of the biggest problems with height adjustable desks is the restricted weight capacity they can handle due to limitations of the mechanism or motor. Not so Jarvis, thanks to its policy of fitting a motor to every desk leg, weight carrying capacity is impressive. Two legged models can handle up to 350 lbs and Jarvis3 takes a 535 lbs load.
Stability is another area where Jarvis excels. Whenever you move a large work surface to a standing height sway is always a potential problem. And it’s for this reason the new three-stage leg frame has been improved to give yet more rigidity even when fully extended.
The redesigned steel foot has a recessed cut out allowing the leg to slot firmly into it. Leg and foot are then bolted together from the underside with four machine screws making a deep rigid connection.
As a result of this change bracing gussets aren't required. The new leg foot connection has taken care of any sway issues making it stable at all heights and far more substantial than the usual face to face, single bolt connection between foot and leg commonly used on most adjustable desks.
This makes it ideal for multiple monitor arrays, or other weighty equipment.
Racetrack, a new control box option, has the same rapid responsiveness of the previous controller for stop, start and small adjustments. Additionally, it now includes an auto dark feature that blacks the read out after ten seconds, removing unnecessary visual distractions.
Leg motors glide desks up and down at 1.5” per second with a soft controlled stop and start. Overall the top movement is very smooth with no juddering halts or difficulty making fine adjustments.
What about other developments?
What else is new for 2016?
Both the Jarvis Desk and Jarvis3 are now the product names for a new environmentally friendly powder coated top offering available in Black, Graphite or White.
Currently, the Jarvis Desk powder coated rectangular tops come with an option for either square edging or a cut out version with a beveled edge. Jarvis3 corner desk is only available square edged.
If you are interested in rectangular desks with laminate tops you'll find they're now renamed as Jarvis Laminate, and Jarvis Hardwood is where to find real hardwood veneered tops. L-shaped laminate top desks are named as Jarvis3 Laminate and due to start shipping this month.
Jarvis Bamboo covers the single piece rectangular bamboo top desks and Jarvis Butterfly is the name for those with wing top extensions.
Most models offer wiring grommets to route cables from desk top to the underside. All are now round and fit a 3.15” pre-drilled hole in the top, except hardwood tops which retain a rectangular grommet.
OK, let’s look at the different models in more depth.
Product range and technical information

We will include a separate review of the Jarvis treadmill desk in the treadmill section in the near future, for now it’s time to move on to the various desks.
This is the rectangular desk with powder coated medium density fiberboard (MDF) tops finished in black, graphite or white.
There is a choice of seven different top sizes with the three smallest ones being known as Junior. These are all offered as rectangular with three also available with a contoured beveled cut out to the front edge:
- 30″ x 27″ x 0.75″
- 36″ x 27″ x 0.75″
- 42″ x 27″ x 0.75″
- 48″ x 30″ x 0.75″ – also available contoured
- 60″ x 30″ x 0.75″ – also available contoured
- 72″ x 30″ x 0.75″ – also available contoured
- 78″ x 30″ x 0.75″
Instead of powder coated tops, this offers a choice of 12 different laminate top finishes, 8 of these are available for quick shipping and these include:
- Designer White
For those who prefer a real hardwood finish, these real beech wood tops come in the same sizes as the standard laminate desk in three colors:
- Sealed natural beech
- Cherry stained beech
- Walnut stained beech
A bamboo top option was added to the Jarvis stable in the fall of 2015 and utilizes the same frame as the standard product.
Bamboo tops offer both a highly durable work surface as well as a beautiful appearance as you might expect from a natural product. Bamboo sourced for these tops comes from sustainable forests and the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly with no harmful chemicals used.
- 48” x 30” x .75” rectangular top or an optional cut out to front edge
- 60” x 30” x .75” rectangular top or an optional cut out to front edge
- 72” x 30” x .75” rectangular top or an optional cut out to front edge
Originally part of the bamboo range, Butterfly is the new name for bamboo topped desks with wings to each end.
Butterfly has an unusual wing top construction where each end of the top has a raised wing section sitting a little higher.
This helps to segregate the top into three areas, so if you like the idea of using certain parts of your desk for maybe a printer or filing tray the wings are great for that.
- 62” x 30” x .8” rectangular top with wing sections, or an optional cut out to front edge
- 72” x 30” x .8” rectangular top with wing sections, or an optional cut out to front edge
People wanting to fit their own top can purchase the frame only The frame is common to all the Jarvis rectangular desk options except Jarvis Junior, see below for differences.
The frame comes in a single size with telescopic width adjustment varying from 42.5” to 74”.
Frames use a pair of three stage nesting legs each fitted with heavy duty motors designed to safely support 350lbs. The frame adjusts to a low position of 23.25” up to a maximum height of 48.75” excluding the top.
With top fitted the overall height range is slightly different depending on which type is used.
Here are the differences:
- Powder coated and bamboo tops – minimum 24” maximum 49.5”
- Laminate and hardwood – minimum 24.5” maximum 50”
Height is controlled by either a standard up down handset switch or the optional Racetrack raise lower controller with digital readout; four memory presets and auto dark when not in use.
Frame color options include Gray, Black or White.
There is an extensive choice of accessories, and these are covered separately below.
Jarvis3 and Jarvis3 Laminate L-shaped standing desks
Jarvis3 and its laminate alternative are the new additions to the range for 2016 and fill a gap that we noted in our earlier reviews that some users have the need for a very large work surface, or desire a corner desk solution.
These L-shaped desks use two rectangular tops that are pre-drilled on the underside with pilot holes to enable rapid fixing of steel support plates to create a one piece top. This also allows users to create left or right handed desks easily.
- 60” long with a 60” return to left or right hand and desk depth of 30”
- 72” long with a 60” return to left or right hand and desk depth of 30”
- 72” long with a 72” return to left or right hand and desk depth of 30”
Jarvis3 comes with either powder coated MDF square edged tops or with 0.8″ thick laminate tops.
These desks use a pair of standard Jarvis legs, one to each outside end. Additionally, there is an extra footless leg fitted to the top outer corner. Legs make use of the same telescopic leg joiners from the rectangular range and these adjust in and out to suit the top size. Fully expanded the frame extends to 74” and so it’s possible to create an 86” x 86” corner desk with a custom made top.
And no worries about stability on two counts. First, all frames have lower telescopic crossbars that bolt top and bottom where they meet the legs. Second, there is a motor in all three legs making height changes very smooth. All feet have level adjusters, so once configured the whole desk is very sturdy.
Most small footprint sit stand desks opt for a single column support. Although they look aesthetically pleasing, they tend to lack stability, particularly at raised heights. To counter this Fully has gone for a two-legged support, and being compact it is very rigid, so no wobbles or sway when you're standing at it.
Junior only needs a two stage leg, due to the smaller top sizes. It adjusts from a low of 27.8” up to a high of 47.9” excluding top thickness. It still includes a motor in each leg maintaining its impressive 350lbs lifting capacity.
Ideal where space is at a premium, top sizes come in up to three sizes and two finishes including:
- Bamboo 30” x 27” x .625”
- Bamboo 36” x 27” x .625”
- Bamboo 42” x 27” x .625”
- Laminate 30” x 27” x 0.8”
- Laminate 42” x 27” x 1.25”
Frame color and handset controls are as already covered.
The final option will appeal to those looking for something more unusual and design led.
Rocket Mission Evolve desk
Evolve comes from a collaboration between Fully and leading designer Vincent Leman to create a desk that is both beautifully crafted as well as having practical benefits. Instead of a flat worktop, the Rocket Mission designer has gone for a work surface that combines built-in storage beneath it.
Made in a single top size 60” wide by 27” deep and 5” tall it has a solid walnut body, incorporating three storage drawers at the front constructed from solid beech and birch plywood, perfect for storing items that might otherwise clutter the desk top. Switch to the back, and you'll find a rear opening panel giving access to its own inbuilt wire management space.
Rocket Mission Evolve comes with the three-stage frame used on the other models in Gray, Black or White.
Apart from Rocket Mission all desks come with a wide selection of accessories to make the sit stand working experience even more enjoyable.
It’s likely you'll have some cables feeding power and data to equipment on your worktop. The optional under desk wire management bundle will help keep everything tidy.
Choose from a WireTamer, a simple heavy duty plastic C channel that mounts to the underside of the desk top. It’s about 18” long and helps feed cables neatly away from the top.
Alternatively, the full bundle has two WireTamers as well as a Kensington Guardian power strip with six outlets and 15-foot cable, together with ten adhesive cable mounts and 20 zip ties.
Either of these wire management add-ons combined with the optional desk top mounted grommets will route cables neatly to your equipment.
The grommets are round and fit into a 3.15” pre-drilled outlet in the top. However, hardwood tops still have a rectangular grommet.
Mounting choices are available as a single grommet set either left, center or right at the rear of top. Selection is by checkbox making it easy to add two or all three if desired.
A monitor arm may not seem useful on a height adjustable desk as the top is so readily adjustable.
In reality adjusting your screen independently is an excellent way of achieving the right ergonomic working relationship between keyboard and monitor. And Fully's J2 monitor arm is a top quality arm that is extremely competitively priced and compares favorably with many top brand names in the industry.
Should you have a conventional computer base unit, there is a choice of two CPU holders that fix to the desk to keep things neat and tidy.
Locking casters can be specified making it easy to move the desk when cleaning as well as adding an extra two inches of height for extra tall users.
A swivel pencil tray is well worth considering. It mounts on the underside of the desk surface and is useful for holding pens, pencils, paper clips and the like.
One of the missing features on a moving top desk is somewhere to put things you don’t have room for on your desk but still need handy. The Side Kick mobile pedestal answers this need. It’s a high-quality metal pedestal incorporating a pencil drawer with tray insert, a box drawer and a file drawer to take standard letter size suspension folders.
All drawers have molded flush mounted pull handles, ball bearings runners and are lockable from a central lock.
Color options are the same as the desk frames.
Sit stand chair
Although many people begin with the idea of standing all day to work, most find a mix of sitting and standing works best. It makes sense to retain your chair for when you want to sit, however adding a seat designed for sit stand work is a better option, here’s why.
These specialist seats have a far greater adjustment range allowing you to experience many different ways of working, like perching. Currently, Fully is running a promotion for those buying a Jarvis desk and a Capisco Puls chair together. This saves an extra 23% off the regular price of the chair if bought separately.
Lastly a new and interesting anti-fatigue mat. Topo has a uniquely contoured shape helping to keep your muscles active and blood flowing in your legs when standing to work.
So that’s the Jarvis range, what cover does it include?
Fully has enough confidence in its product to offer a full 7-year warranty on the Jarvis desk covering both frame and motors.

“I'm using the white frame Jarvis with the 60″ oak laminate top. It is well-designed and much more stable than I was expecting at the highest height for me (46.3 according to the readout). I also
opted for the monitor arm which is nice and a solid value for the features. Very happy.”
“I have the 72″ Bamboo tri-level top and absolutely love the look. The desk is very well built, and the fit and finish look even nicer in person! Thoroughly satisfied.”
In less than three years Fully's (formerly Ergo Depot) Jarvis range has gone from a ‘one trick pony' rectangular desk into a comprehensive range of different models that can comfortably handle most people’s standing desk needs.
Selected by authoritative website The Wirecutter as its best choice for three years running, it's difficult to see this changing in 2017. Time will tell, of course; products have to jump through a lot of hoops to win this coveted accolade.
It’s likely that product development will level off now regarding new offerings. However. Fully tends to quietly tweak its products with cosmetic improvements and design updates, and that will probably continue. All models are rated with a load carrying capacity of 350lbs and Jarvis3 can carry a mighty 535lbs. So even the most demanding user should find the desks strong enough for the task.
Previously we were critical of the absence of L-shaped tops, and this has now been taken care with the addition of Jarvis3. It would be good to see beveled edges added to the powder coated tops in Jarvis3, at least for the main desk top.
Jarvis continues to lead the market with frequent new developments by the supplier. It’s not so long since it only had a 2-year warranty, 7-year cover is surely a massive vote of confidence in the products’ quality.
Where to buy
All the Jarvis models are available direct from Fully and prices include free shipping to the US mainland.
