Both desk and seat are height adjustable over a wide range making sitting and standing to work easy. However Keen believes it works best when used in a perching or semi standing position.
This way of working is already very popular with users of adjustable height desks. The open posture the body adopts when working this way seems perfectly suited for the user’s body.
And it it is aimed to appeal to a wide range of users too.
Who is it for?
The range of adjustment on the Locus Workstation makes it possible for anyone between 4 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 8 inches tall to work at it comfortably. Not only that the Focus seat which forms part of the system will support anyone weighing up to 300 lbs which compares favorably with most office chairs.
So whether you are short or tall small or large framed this workstation is likely to cater for your needs.
Let’s look at what set it apart from similar sit stand products.
What makes it different?
It’s probably the only product which offers a purpose designed desk and seat from the same manufacturer. Even though the two are designed to work with each other you could use either component separately with an alternative product.
So we’ll start by looking at the desk first.
The first point to note about the desk is that the frame is angled forwards towards the user. This presents the top more in the style of a writing table making a more natural support for your arms when working.
Even so it’s easy to adjust the top from flat to as much as 15° for individual user comfort.
Top height can be quickly altered by a geared crank handle set centrally beneath the desk top and requiring minimal turns to move the top.
Also the top has a shaped cut out on the front edge allowing you to get close in to the work area.
Next, let’s look at the seat and how it works.Unlike other chairs the Locus seat comes with a unique base support. This includes a large curved wooden base with wheels to the front underside for ease of movement. The upright and seat pad attach to the base by a hinging arrangement where wooden base connects to the seat’s vertical support.
Where you choose to the seat to be folded flat for easy storage. Near to the connection of the base to the upright is a knob for adjusting the depth of the seat and base.
Tall users will want to extend the length of the space between base and seat towards its maximum.
Average height people would want it set around the mid range of it reach, whilst short built people would be best to set it nearer the minimum reach.
It’s really just a case of experimenting to get the right length for your needs. Most people will find the perching or semi standing posture to be very comfortable. And as the seat allows 10° of sideways movement as well as 15° of vertical change you always get plenty of healthy movement in your body as you work.
Not only that the healthy open angle your body forms makes sure your weight is safely supported down your legs to your feet.
The seat sets your legs in a stable, comfortable triangle. It’s all so much healthier than the scrunched up posture adopted when sitting at a conventional desk.
Moving on, what about the finishes and dimensions?
